IEA
Designing around the idea of changing the world for the better.
Who is iea
Infrastructure and Energy Alternatives is a clean energy company that I have been working at since November of 2022. I’m a big advocate for environmental preservation, and providing access to renewables is the best way to get to a more sustainable world. I signed on with the knowledge that I was making the world a better place.
Managing Multiple Brands
IEA as an entity has 10 operating companies underneath it, these opcos allow a constantly changing workload, and allows me to work within multiple brands. Maintaining an overall standard while recognizing that certain companies within the IEA family have certain hierarchies forces me to constantly be looking for design solutions that are flexible enough to translate to all of those companies.
Work Examples
The following is an example of my works during my time at IEA. My day to day designs ranged from web, digital, print, and large format pieces.
Onboarding Materials
The first project that I worked on at IEA was remaking the onboarding expierence for new recruits. This included redesigning the presentation from the ground up, as well as making onboarding social posts for new recruits to post on their accounts to show some company pride.
SPEAK UP FOR SAFETY
Speak up for Safety is a week in May dedicated to raising safety awareness and tips among the labor force and office employees, dedicated social posts, merch, and talks were designed for that week.
Emower Redesign
Empower is IEA’s Intranet site, it’s where IEA Stakeholders share news, updates, and posts. A pain point that we had when I joined was that employees wanted to utilize the site for more institutional uses. Things such as obtaining their W2, putting time in for their PTO, and seeing what their Benefits are, without having to go to external sites.
We did a redesign that made quality of life and enhanced user experience, while also introducing pages that had these pieces of information. On top of these, we introduced a chat function, that allowed all users to communicate in app, as well as a social wall, an area specifically made for posting things that aren’t normally a part of a news feed.
THE ACQUISITION
A couple months before I was brough on, IEA was acquired by MasTec Industries to build out their renewables wing. This presented more challenges, such as doubling the number of companies I would work with from 10 to 20, as well as increasing the types of stakeholders I would be working with this.
Mastec banners
We created these banners to utilize at conferences. They are used as wayfinding, as well as some brand immersion in conference rooms. Worked with printers across the country, stakeholders in different states, all to get these in on a tight deadline.
Social media posts
A frequent part of my job is making media post graphics for our social channels, as well as our internal app, Empower. Here are some of them, on average, I usually make 2-3 a week, across the Opcos, IEA Corporate, and the MasTec Renewables Segment.
